Just a quick update on what has been happening here in Chardon, Ohio.
Nicholas is in his third year at Cleveland State and has changed majors. He is a business major with a concentration in computer applications. He still has a part time job at the local Radio Shack, which pays for the gas and insurance so he can drive independently using our old car. He had a near miss at Thanksgiving when he hydroplaned and spun the car out on I-90. Fortunately he was able to regain control before hitting the wall but was facing into oncoming traffic. Both he and the car came through unscathed but he was shaken up and has a new healthy respect for water on the road!
Allison is in 5th grade and continues to pursue her interest in acting. She was in 5 plays this year and took 10 weeks of voice lessons. She has also started to write plays with her friend Heather. They are currently revising the first play under the direction of one of the local theatre directors. She continues to do well in school and made the honor roll this fall.
Karen continues to volunteer at Hambden Elementary where she helps in the school library. She is also helping to run the parish library at our church. She had a short story published in Ladybug magazine this year. Since both Karen and Guy are both pre-diabetic she has been researching low carbohydrate meal options and food substitutes.
Guy continues to work for Sherwin-Williams and was promoted to associate director. He has an expanded role with more people reporting to him. In May he became a US citizen and was sworn in at a ceremony at the federal courthouse in Cleveland. Taking his citizenship seriously he ran for school board this fall and was elected. His term starts in January 2012.
Our home improvement project for the year was to replace a large picture window at the front of the house with a bow window. We also got some extra drainage put in the yard so that we do not get streams of water flowing across the lawn during heavy rains. Our area has set an all-time record for rain this year - totalling over 63 inches with more rain in the forecast.
This year we are staying at home for Christmas. It might even be a green Christmas, a very rare occurrence here in Chardon but one that we appreciate.
